Before using your portable winch

Start with the manufacturer’s manual for your exact model. A portable winch is part of a system: the rope, anchors, connectors and any pulleys must all be suitable for the task.

Check what is supplied

Read the product listing and check the package when it arrives. Rope, batteries, chargers and accessories are included only where stated. Ask us if an item is missing or you are unsure which component you have.

Match the rope and accessories

Check the specified rope construction, diameter and minimum breaking strength. Inspect the rope and equipment before use. Read our rope guide for help with model selection.

Plan the task

Confirm the load, terrain, anchor and direction of pull. Use the operating method and limits in the manual. Pulling capacity is not a lifting rating: use only equipment specifically rated for lifting when a load must be lifted.

Prepare the power source

For petrol models, follow the engine manual’s fuel and oil requirements. For battery models, use the specified battery and charger. Check the commissioning and maintenance instructions before starting.

Ask before you start

If you need help, contact us with the make, model, serial number and a description of the job. For parts, servicing or a fault, see Product Support.
